100 Shekel

A shekel is a biblical measure of weight equal to .4 ounces or 11.4 grams.

Shekels were the standard unit of weight like the pound or gram is today.

Shekels are typically used in reference with monetary value – silver, gold, barley and fl…our. There is an exception to this when speaking about Goliath. His armor is mentioned to weight 5,000 shekels and his iron spearhead weighed 600 shekels.

For those who are curious but don’t want to do the math, that’s 125 (57 kg) pounds of armor and a 15 pound (6.8 kg) spearhead.

Jesus Tempted in the wilderness

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness

Matthew 4: 11

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.
6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”
11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:15-17)

 Genesis 3:6

6.When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

Satan /Devil used 1. the lust of the flesh, 2.the lust of the eyes, and 3. the pride of life on Eve and adam

Again Satan /Devil used 1. the lust of the flesh, 2.the lust of the eyes, and 3. the pride of life on Jesus in the wilderness

here’s how –>

1. The lust of the flesh:

Jesus was hungry after 40 days and nights of fasting …
verse 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
verse4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
When are body is hungry its easy to yield … so Lust of the flesh is an easy attack for the devil .

2.The lust of the eyes :

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”

3. The pride of life :

verse5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.

Mount of Beatitudes

Popularly known as Sermon on the Mount

Location : This hill is located between Capernaum and Tabgha

Teacher – Jesus Christ of Nazareth

be·at·i·tude

1. supreme blessedness; exalted happiness.

2. ( often initial capital letter ) any of the declarations of blessedness pronounced by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 5: 3-11

Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to Him, 2and He began to teach them, saying:

3Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness,

for they will be filled.

7Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy.

8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.

10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Also in Luke 6:20-23

There are spiritual implications in the terms poor, hunger , weep and hate.Jesus does not commend poverty, hunger, weep , sorrow and reproach in themselves .these sufferings bring blessings only when they are endured through discipleship for the son of man’s sake (vs 22)

Therefore ,poverty of spirit , hungering after righteousness, weeping over one’s sins and social ostracism for the sake of Christ are sources of blessing.

Poor: The term denotes the humble poor whose trust is in God’s help in the midst of their poverty

I thank God for the blessing to be at the ” Sermon on Mount ” location .

Hallelujah …Praise God !!!!!

Ash Wednesday 2012 — Why Fast ?

Ash Wednesday, is the first day of Lent and occurs 46 days before Easter

“Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?
7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out;
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from your own flesh?
8 Then your light shall break forth like the morning,
Your healing shall spring forth speedily,
And your righteousness shall go before you;
The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’

Isaiah 58:6-9

Holy Family Exile in Egypt

The Flight into Egypt

Matthew 2: 12- 15

13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”

14 When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt,

15 and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”

Hosea 11:1 —”When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.

Holy Land Pictures – Marah

Bitter Waters Made Sweet

22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water.

23 Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah

24 And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”

25 So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet.
